“Very Short Stories for Harried Readers”

book_cover.jpg

I’ve been a fan of flash fiction since college (a term not used or was unfamiliar of until now): short, sweet, to the point. It’s like a pancit canton with everything in it and when you’re desperately hungry and in a hurry, the dish suits you just fine. I’m so psyched the first time Flori told me her work will be published as part of the whole shebang, it probably is the best belated Christmas gift I ever got. The intro has a point, that city folks nowadays can’t possibly handle sitting down and reading an inch thick novel and enjoy it. Much to my dismay, I experience the same. I haven’t read a decent novel for such a long time now without being able to savor every page. Sometimes, I would try finishing it in a day over the weekend because I know I won’t be able to pick it up again come Monday until the week’s through.

This book will be my constant companion on the train for the next few weeks or so, something to start and end my day with leisure. However short the stories are, I still want to savor them word by word. Congrats Flo! We’re real proud of you :D

Mrs. Lovett

Easy now,
Hush, love, hush,
Don’t distress yourself,
What’s your rush?
Keep your thoughts
Nice and lush,
Wait.

Hush, love, hush,
Think it through.
Once it bubbles, then
What’s to do?
Watch it close.
Let it brew.
Wait.

I’ve been thinkin’ flowers,
Maybe daisies,
To brighten up the room!
Don’t you think some flowers,
Pretty daisies,
Might relieve the gloom?
Ah, wait,
Love, wait.

Can’t you think of nothin’ else?
Always broodin’ away on your wrongs
what happened heaven knows how many years ago!

Slow, love, slow.
Time’s so fast.
Now goes quickly, see
Now it’s past!
Soon will come,
Soon will last.
Wait.

Don’t you know,
Silly man?
Half the fun is to
Plan the plan!
All good things
Come to those who can
Wait.

Gillyflowers, maybe,
‘Stead of daisies…
I dunno though…
What do you think?
